Baahubali 2 may have made over Rs 1,500 crore at the worldwide box office, but here is a director who thinks that SS Rajamouli's creation has not broken any record. Anil Sharma who made Hindi movies like Gadar: Ek Prem Katha and Apne is of the opinion that the multilingual film has not set any new record.
At the launch of his son Utkarsh's debut movie Genius, Anil Sharma said that his Gadar: Ek Prem Katha had minted Rs 265 crore way back in 2001 and this collection, according to him, is equal to today's Rs 5,000 crore.
"As mentioned, Gadar had done a business of Rs 265 crore in 2001 when the ticket rates were Rs 25 only. As per valuation, it is Rs 5,000 crore today and 'Bahubali 2' has just reached some Rs 1,500 crore, so no record has been broken," the Times of India quoted the filmmaker as saying.
He added, "Please don't frame me in all these things. If some good film comes, records would be broken. And as far as 'Bahubali 2' is concerned, it has not yet set any record."
SS Rajamouli's movie is the first Indian film to achieve the feat of making Rs 1,500 crore at the worldwide box office. The movie has struck gold in all four – Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam – languages.
The two-part series is bankrolled by Shobu Yarlagadda. The best part of its success story is that not just producers, but the distributors and exhibitors too have made handsome profits from the flick, which stars Anushka Shetty and Tamanna Bhatia in the female lead roles.
