"Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah" deals with the love story of a Tamil Iyengar boy and a Muslim girl. The film is said to be in the lines of "Hum Aapke Hai Kaun" (1994) and "Monsoon Wedding" (2001), where rich culture and tradition of Indian weddings are showcased. It is also said to break many myths surrounding different communities and groups.
"Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah" was announced as Anis's directorial debut in February 2012. Initially, the film had the star cast of Jai and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Later, Samantha backed out due of her busy schedule and the role was given to Nazriya, which was her debut in Tamil. The shooting of the film got delayed to such an extend that Nazriya's other Tamil films like "Neram", "Raja Rani", "Naiyaandi" and "Vaayai Moodi Pesavum" got released before the release of "Thirumanam Ennum Nikah."
The film also caught media attention when a Chennai based organization, Tamil Nadu Shia Muslim Jamath filed a writ against it. The community claimed that their rituals were portrayed in an objectionable manner in the film.
The film was shot mainly in Chennai, Hyderabad and Kozhikode. Real time festivals like Avani Vattam, Golu at the Sri Adikeshava Perumal Temple in Sriperumbudur, Ramzan in Malabar and Muharram in Hyderabad are also shot in the film.
The songs of "Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah" were released in December and are among the top spot in the playlist. The music of the film is composed by Ghibran and lyrics are written by Kadhal Mathi, Munna Shaoukat Ali, Karthik Netha, Parvathy, Thenmozhi Das and Nizami.
"When director Anis narrated the script to me, I pounced upon this opportunity since I felt it had a huge scope of becoming a musical treat. My prediction was justified, thanks to the talented lyric writers Parvathy, Karthik Nehta, Thenmozhi Das, Kadhal Mathi and Munna Shoukat Ali. Not to forget the singers Bonnie Chakrabothy, Nivas, 'Isai mazhalai' Harish, Ashwitha , Yazin Nizar, Shadab Faridi, Sundar Narayana Rao, and Chinmayee," said music director Ghibran to Behindwoods.
The film also has Heebah Patel, Jamal, Pandirajan and Deekshitha Manikkam in pivotal roles. The cinematography is done by Loganathan and editing is by Kasi Vishwanath. The film is produced by V. Ravichadran under the banner of Aascar Films Pvt Ltd.
