Ilayathalapathy Vijay, Samantha and Amy Jackson-starrer "Theri" is an action-thriller, written and directed by Atlee Kumar of "Raja Rani" fame. The Tamil movie, which is produced by Kalaipuli S Dhanu, has Mahendran as the antagonist with Prabhu, Raadhika Sarathkumar, Santhanam, Rajendran, Kaali Venkat and others in the supporting roles.
After making a dream debut, Atlee Kumar approached Vijay with the script of "Theri." Ilayathalapathy was impressed by the director's energy and enthusiasm and allotted the dates for the movie, which was formally launched in June 2015. Subsequently, Samantha and Amy Jackson were signed along with Mahendran to play important roles.
Atlee Kumar roped in most of the technical members from his debut movie. George C Williams, Anthony L Ruben and GV Prakash Kumar were signed to handle key departments like cinematography, editing and music departments.
"Theri" is a landmark film for GV Prakash Kumar as it is his 50th film as a music director. His songs have come out well and "En Jeevan," "Eena Meena Teeka," "Chella Kutti" and "Raangu" have impressed the listeners. The background score in the movie's teaser and trailer have also struck the chord with the viewers.
The audience have also got glimpses of George C Williams' cinematography in the teaser and trailer of "Theri." Also, the brilliant editing work of Anthony has won appreciation from the viewers.
Roles
Vijay will be seen in the roles of Joseph Kuruvilla, Vijay Kumar, Dharmeshwar. All three characters appear to be different from each other. The actor has turned cop for one of the roles. Samantha plays his wife Mithra, a doctor by profession. Amy Jackson has enacted the role of a Malayali teacher with KS Ravikumar and Raadhika Sarathkumar playing the parents of Ilayathalapathy in the film.
Massive Release
"Theri" is releasing on a big scale worldwide. The buzz says that it will see the light of the day in over 1,200 screens. The film is expected to get record openings in Chennai and in the U.S., where it is releasing in over 150 screens. In Tamil Nadu, the screen count will easily cross 450. The film has been dubbed into Telugu as "Policeodu," which will see the light of the day April 15.
Pre-Release Business
The theatrical rights of "Theri" have reportedly fetched about Rs. 50 crore for the producer. Many distributors have paid fancy amounts for the rights of different regions as they consider the flick to be a safe bet. On the other hand, Vijay TV has acquired the satellite rights of the film for an undisclosed amount.
