Ilayathalapathy Vijay's film "Theri" has grossed over Rs. 100 crore at worldwide box office in its first week. The movie reached this feat on Wednesday, April 20.
"#Theri (tamil) grosses over 100Cr in its 1st week 'WW' & enters the elite 100 cr Club . One of the fastest ever to cross the 100 Cr mark," TamilBoxOffice1 confirmed the news on Twitter. This is the third movie of Vijay to have reached this mark, after his blockbusters "Thuppakki" in 2012 and "Kaththi" in 2014.
"Theri" had made over Rs. 28 crore worldwide on the first day itself. The collection of the Tamil movie dropped on the second day at domestic box office but the business grew a little on the third day. Finally, the flick enjoyed good viewership on its fourth day, which was a Sunday, in India.
However, the collection remained stable at the key overseas centres, which helped "Theri" to end its first weekend at Rs. 85.36 crore from the worldwide box office. It has to be noted that the domestic box office contributed over Rs. 50 crore to it.
"Theri" has retained good viewership during the weekdays as well. "Mid Week Box-Office - #Theri continues to be rock steady, as pressure 4 tickets during week days is strong," trade tracker Sreedhar Pillai tweeted.
"Theri" is doing good business in foreign countries too in the weekdays. It is set to reach the $1-million club in North America. "Tamil film #Theri nears $ 1 million in NORTH AMERICA. Collects $ 978,135 [₹ 6.47 cr] till Tue: USA $ 663,463 + Canada $ 314,672. @Rentrak," Taran Adarsh posted. Among the other overseas centres, it has done well in the U.K., Australia and France.
The movie was released in over 31 countries in more than 1,000 screens on April 14, on the occasion of the Tamil New Year. The Telugu version of the film, titled "Police" aka "Policeodu," was released a day later.
The movie features a story and screenplay by Atlee Kumar, and stars Samantha and Amy Jackson in the female lead roles. "Theri" is produced by Kalaipuli S Dhanu.
