"Theri" has continued its dominance at the Chennai box office in its second weekend. It has also overpowered Sasikumar's latest release "Vetrivel" in the city.
As per Behindwoods, Vijay's film has collected Rs. 1.67 crore from 426 shows in its second weekend to take its 10-day total to Rs. 6.49 crore. In the first weekend, the Tamil movie had minted close to Rs. 4 crore from over 456 shows.
"Theri" retained most of the screens in the second weekend and it helped the film do such a good business. The Tamil movie has performed well despite it not being released in most of the theatres in the Chengalpet region.
Sasikumar's "Vetrivel" had an average opening and is in the second position in Chennai. It collected Rs. 21.67 lakh from 108 shows. The film has got fairly positive reviews and the industry is expecting the business of the movie to pick up this week as the craze for "Theri" might slow down.
Hollywood movie "The Jungle Book" has collected Rs. 17.39 crore from 84 shows. It had raked in Rs. 2.08 crore, which is considered an impressive collection for an English film in Chennai, by the end of its third weekend.
Allu Arjun's "Sarainodu" had a decent opening, and earned Rs. 11.38 lakh from 54 shows while Shah Rukh Khan's "Fan" collected Rs. 6.38 lakh from 33 shows in its second weekend in Chennai. The total collection of Shah Rukh Khan's film stands at Rs. 72.20 lakh.
Nagarjuna and Karthi's "Thozha" made Rs. 1.92 lakh to take its total tally to Rs. 3.76 crore at the end of its fifth weekend. Malayalam movie "Jacobinte Swargarajyam" earned Rs. 1.17 lakh and the total collection of the movie stands at Rs. 18.70 lakh at the end of its third weekend.
