Photos of Mars taken by NASA's Curiosity Rover will fascinate anybody. Its topography and serene feel with no human structure is eye-catching, but instead of admiring the new-found beauty alien enthusiasts seem to be more interested in finding signs of life on Mars.
Conspiracy theorists have claimed to have spotted several objects that suggest existence of life on Mars from pictures sent by Curiosity Rover, but there is no concrete proof whatsoever.
The "strange woman", "martian crab", "ancient faces", "crashed spaceship" etc on the surface of the red planet, as claimed by some, could be just a piece of rock, shadow or sand that take certain shape from a particular angle but that would not stop alien enthusiasts from sparking speculations. Some may find these to be interesting, so there is no point spoiling the fun.
Now, a conspiracy theorist has claimed possible male, female and child figures can be seen in a photograph of Mars taken by Curiosity Rover.
"To everyones amazement some anonymous person in Asia did and posted it on the Internet causing widespread excitement over the possibilities of life existing on Mars. This led me to new discoveries of a male and a possible child figure near the female figure," wrote Scott C Waring on the UFO Sightings Daily.
"I also found a statue like face (head only), in high detail of a reptilian looking skyward and wearing a crown with a jewel in it. I found a three carved faces in the side of the mountain of three unknown species, which can only be compared to Mt. Rushmore."
But how true are the claims of alien enthusiasts?
"We have color HD cameras on this rover that far exceed anything ever sent to the planet before, and yet in order to find these things that kind of trick your brain into thinking it's a mermaid or whatever, you do have to zoom in where it's kind of a fuzzy shadow at that point," Ashwin Vasavada, a scientist who works on the Mars rover project, told CNN.
Vasavada also cited the example of the claim of a "tiny woman wandering around Mars", saying "it does look like a little figure of a woman but she would be a few inches tall and hasn't moved in months, so we don't think that's what it is". He went on to say that scientists at NASA have not seen anything concrete on claims of sighting objects, figures or rats on Mars.
"We have no evidence of Martian iguanas or rats at this time," he says. "One of the best things we found is that Mars could support life, (but) if anything we think it's microbial life that's possible at this time. Things like rats and iguanas would be way further up the food chain that we think Mars may have ever gotten to," he told CNN.
