At least 12 people were killed and more than 15 injured when a three-storeyed building collapsed in Thakurli town in Thane district, Maharashtra.
The injured are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dombivili area. Many people are feared trapped under the debris as 20 families were inside the building when it collapsed.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), fire brigade officials and civic authorities are trying to rescue them. The heavy rainfall has hampered the rescue operations, District Disaster Management Control Room in-charge Jaideep Visave told PTI.

The incident occurred at around 10:40 pm on Tuesday night when the three-decade-old building collapsed in Cholegaon area of the town.
"The building 'Matru Chhaya' crashed at about 10.40 pm following heavy downpour. A massive relief and rescue operation has begun and so far three injured persons have been rescued and rushed to the hospital," Regional Disaster Management Committee (RDMC) chief Santosh Kadam said.
The mayor of Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation, Kalyani Patil, said the municipal corporation had issued notice to the residents of 'Matru Chhaya' asking them to vacate.
