Vijay has never shied away from donating big money for people in need -- not just for the people from his home state, but also to those outside Tamil Nadu. And the classic example of it was when Thalapathy chipped in to do his bit earlier this year for the victims of the flood-hit Kerala.
Now, Vijay has turned large heart as he has generously donated for the victims of cyclone Gaja. Using his fan clubs, the actor has tried to reach out to the victims by spending over Rs 40 lakh already. Sources say that the Thalapathy is willing to contribute further after getting first-hand information from his close aides.
So far, Sivakarthikeyan (Rs 10 lakh and Rs 10 lakh worth relief materials), Vijay Sethupathi (Rs 25 lakh), Suriya Sivakumar's family (Rs 50 lakh), director Shankar (Rs 10 lakh) and many others have done their bit for the flood-hit people. A couple of celebrities like GV Prakash Kumar has contributed relief materials and encouraged people to stand up for the cause.
Thanjavur, Nagapattinam, Dindigul, Trichy, Thiruvarur, Theni Cuddalore, Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Karur and Ramanathapuram districts in Tamil Nadu have been affected by cyclone Gaja. 46 people have lost their lives, above 251,000 people have been evacuated to over 500 relief camps and Rs 1,000 of crore worth crops and properties have been damaged.
Meanwhile, the fan clubs of Rajinikanth have decided to reduce the expenditure of 2.0 opening celebration and donate the amount for the Gaja relief works. The mega-budget movie hits the screens worldwide on November 29.
