Thala Ajith with his wife Shalini paid their respects to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who passed away on Tuesday, August 7. The mortal remains of the DMK leader have been kept at the Rajaji Hall in Chennai.
Ajith was in Hyderabad shooting his upcoming movie Viswasam. The actor took the next flight to Chennai after hearing about M Karunanidhi's demise.
"Muthamizh Aringnar, Senior leader, five-time chief minister Dr Kalaignar was a man with power of words, expertise of the language, celebrated political career, and high-quality administrative attributes. I express my condolences to his family, members of the DMK and my fellow Tamilians. I pray the almighty god that his sould rests in peace," read the actor's condolence message.
Meanwhile, Thalapathy Vijay is on his way to Chennai from the US to pay his respects to the five-time Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. The actor was busy shooting his upcoming movie Sarkar, which is being directed by AR Murugadoss. His wife Sangeetha has paid homage to the politician.
So far, most of the dignitaries from Kollywood have paid their respects to M Karunanidhi. Rajinikanth with his wife Latha, daughter Aishwarya and son-in-law Dhanush, Suriya along with his father Sivakumar and Sivakarthikeyan among many celebrities who have paid the last respects.

M Karunanidhi, who breathed his last at the Kauvery Hospital, where he was being treated for over 10 days over multiple-issues, shared a special bond with the film industry. He was a scriptwriter and a poet, who used the medium to promote progressive thinking and social change.
The issue around the burial of M Karunanidhi at Marina beach has created a controversy with the state government refusing to give the required land citing legal issues.
