Social media was flooded with rave reviews and appreciation for Nawazuddin Siddiqui's performance as Bal Thackeray in 'Thackeray' trailer. The way the actor had grasped and had sunk into the character surprised everyone,
Critics too were left in awe of the trailer and lauded Siddiqui as the magnanimous star we get once in a decade. However, southern superstar Siddharth was nowhere near impressed with the film's trailer or the content. As per the actor, the film sells hate and hate speech against south Indians.
Poetic justice is when a Muslim actor from UP gets to play the part of the revered Marathi bigot in a propaganda film.

Nawazuddin has repeated 'Uthao lungi bajao pungi' (lift the lungi and *'#$ him) in the film #Thackeray. Clearly hate speech against South Indians... In a film glorifying the person who said it! Are you planning to make money out of this propaganda? Stop selling hate! Scary stuff!

The conveniently un-subtitled #Marathi trailer of #Thackeray. So much hate sold with such romance and heroism (Music, tiger roars, applause, jingoism). No solidarity shown to millions of South Indians and immigrants who make #Mumbai great. #HappyElections! https://t.co/F13jMcIRle

He had further elaborated, "Balasaheb never hated Muslims. He was never against them. His fight was against those who supported Pakistan, and encouraged terrorism, irrespective of their religion. We have cast an actor [for his talent], not his religion. We will portray the important events in his life. He was a leader who did not hide anything from his people. We want to reveal his personality. It is my dream project. It won't be a documentary. It will be a feature film along the lines of those made for Mahatma Gandhi and [Nelson] Mandela."
