Billionaire Elon Musk and his actress wife Talulah Riley have split for a second time.
The couple first married in 2010 and in January 2012, Musk announced their separation. However, days later he tweeted to Riley: "It was an amazing four years. I will love you forever. You will make someone very happy one day."
It turned out that the couple rekindled their romance and remained together for a year before remarrying eighteen months later in July 2013. However, the second marriage was short-lived as the entrepreneur and his wife, in a joint statement issued on Wednesday, announced that they were splitting amicably.
The day when thousands of people across the world make vows, this elite couple was breaking one.
A spokeswoman confirmed that Musk filed for divorce on the eve of New Year in Los Angeeles County Superior Court, adding that he has also agreed to pay Riley $16 million in cash and other assets in financial settlement. The property would be divided between the two according to their prenuptial agreement.
Musk was previously married to Justine Musk, who he had met as a student at Ontario's Queen's University, Kingston. With Justine, Musk has five sons, whose custody they share.
Musk shot to fame after he co-founded PayPal and made a fortune through the venture, following which he went on to start SpaceX and Tesla Motors.
Riley, 29, is a British actress who appeared in 'Pride and Prejudice (2005)', 'Inception' and 'St. Trinians'.
In a tell-all interview with Marie Claire in 2010, Justine Musk told the world about the dark side of Elon Musk's character.
"In the late spring of 2008, my wealthy entrepreneurial husband, Elon Musk, the father of my five young sons, filed for divorce. Six weeks later, he texted me to say he was engaged to a gorgeous British actress in her early 20s who had moved to Los Angeles to be with him," Justine said, Daily Mail reports.
"As we danced at our wedding reception, Elon told me, 'I am the alpha in this relationship.' When she insisted she wasn't Elon's employee, Justine claimed her husband would say, 'If you were my employee, I would fire you,'" she added.
However, at present Justine and Elon remain friends.
