At least 11 children — 10 from South Korea and one from China — died after a bus fell off a highway bridge in northeastern China, officials said on Thursday.
The bus, which was carrying a group of South Koreans, had left the Chinese city of Ji'an and was halfway to its destination of Dandong when the accident happened on Wednesday, China's Xinhua news agency reported.
Officials from South Korea said that 26 South Koreans were travelling in the bus that was a part of a six-bus caravan carrying a 140-person delegation of mainly government employees. The Ji'an government confirmed on its social media page that 10 people from South Korea died in the accident.
Officials from the South Korean Ministry of Government Administration and Home Affairs said that the delegation was visiting China to tour historical sites, including places where Korean independence fighters resisted Japan's colonial rule before the Second World War ended.
