A huge drama took place at politician Vanteru Pratap Reddy's house at Hyderabad on Monday after he allegedly attempted to commit suicide following a police raid at his residence.
The police had come to raid Reddy's house on a tip-off that some illegal activity was happening there.
According to the police, Reddy tried to pour petrol on himself. "We received a complaint that some illegal activity of distributing liquor and money is going on at Vanteru Pratap Reddy's house. A checking was then conducted...Pratap Reddy along with his supporters came and started misbehaving with officials and he poured petrol on himself, tried to attempt suicide and created drama. There was nothing found and seized from his residence," PV Padmaja, a senior police officer said.
However, Reddy alleged that police barged into his house and tried to set him on fire and kill him.
Reddy is contesting in the upcoming Telangana elections on a Congress ticket from Gajwel constituency, from where K Chandrasekhar Rao, leader of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is seeking re-election.
The Election Commission (EC) has directed all law enforcement agencies to maintain a strict look out on all illegal activities. The security has also been intensified in the state as the Telangana Assembly elections are scheduled to be held on December 7.
