At least 16 people were killed in a head-on collision between a truck and a seven-seater autorickshaw in Telangana's Adilabad district on Sunday. The deceased included seven children and the driver of the autorickshaw.
The accident took place near Degam village, 260 km from Hyderabad, Indo-Asian News Service reported. While 13 people were killed on the spot, three died on the way to a hospital. Two people sustained injuries.
"The deceased include five women, four boys and three girls," Press Trust of India quoted Bhainsa Rural police station Circle Inspector Vinod Reddy as saying.
The victims were headed to a temple when the mishap occurred. The children were aged between one and 12, and eight of the deceased were from one family.
The police said the autorickshaw with 18 people on board was crushed under the truck.
The injured were admitted to a hospital in neighbouring Nizamabad district. The victims hailed from Maharashtra's Nanded district and were reportedly working in brick kilns in Nizamabad.
