A 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death on Friday by two juveniles in Mangolpuri, outer Delhi,
The two accused were apprehended by police and then sent to a juvenile home on Saturday. The incident happened around 2.30 pm.
The boy, identified as Akash, may have been attacked for eve-teasing the sister of one of the accused, reported Deccan Herald.
"Akash sustained a stab wound in his lower right thigh and succumbed to injuries late on Friday," a police officer told Deccan Herald.
The victim's mother said that she saw the accused beating up her son while she was shopping in Indira Park market in Mangolpuri.
Speaking to the police, she said that she saw a boy pulling out a knife and stabbing Akash while the other held him. The accused fled the spot after locals gathered around the scene on hearing the commotion.
The victim's mother immediately rushed him to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital but doctor's couldn't save him."He was brought here in an unconscious state and succumbed to his injuries," a hospital source said.
The boys will now be charged for murder. "The accused have been arrested and they now face charge of murder following Akash's death," said the officer.
Friday's crime happened at a time when the country is demanding the age of accused juveniles to be lowered in the wake of the Delhi-gang rape and murder incident. As of now, the Juvenile Justice Act, 2000, provides undue protection to juveniles irrespective of the seriousness of their crimes. The offenders would only be sentenced to a maximum of three years in a correctional home.
Earlier in March, the Supreme Court sent notices to several ministries challenging some of the provisions in the Juvenile Justice Act, reported Hindustan Times.
