Director Rahul Sankrityan's Taxiwala (Taxiwaala) received decent opening at the US box office in the premiere shows. But the film has failed to beat the collection record of actor Vijay Devarakonda's Geetha Govindham.
Vijay Devarakonda's previous releases have made very good collections at the US box office. Especially Geetha Govindam has done wonders in the country. However, his last outing Nota failed to live up to the expectation. All his fans are hoping that Taxiwala will fare well and take his career graph upwards.
GA2 Pictures and UV Creations have done a lot of publicity for Taxiwala and its promos have also garnered enough attention for the film. The hype surrounding it made its overseas theatrical rights sell at a whopping price. The distributors booked around 120 screens for its screening in a bid to cash in the popularity of Vijay Devarakonda in the US and the movie managed to get a good advance booking for its premiere shows.
The Rahul Sankrityan-directed film opened to decent response with its average occupancy ranging between 50 and 60 per cent in the preview shows. As per early updates, Taxiwaala has collected $94,270 from 86 screens at the US box office in the premiere shows and this number will go up when the final figures are revealed.
It is clear that Taxiwala will not be able to beat the record of Geetha Govindam. But It should be seen whether it would smash the record of Nota. PaniPuri tweeted, "#Taxiwaala #USA Premieres Gross till 11PM CST $94,270 From 86 Locs.. #GeethaGovindham $403,442 (1+1 Offer)(157 Locs) #NOTA $190,585 (132 Locs) #VijayDeverakonda @TheDeverakonda @ItsJawalkar @Rahul_Sankrityn @SKNonline (sic)."
Taxiwala has made better collection than Ravi Teja's Amar Akbar Anthony, which was premiered a day before it and collected $68,548 at the US box office in the preview shows. When its final collection is revealed, the movie is likely to land in the list of top 10 biggest openers of Tollywood in 2018.
