The Tiago hatchback is not just another offering for Tata Motors, it has turned the table for the company and it continues to inspire Tata to keep the momentum going. Buoyed by the success of the Tiago,Tata is now back to the drawing table to paint a new model, which is codenamed X451.
A Livemint report said a micro-SUV codenamed X451 is in the works and would go into production in 2017-18. The X451, which will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20, would be designed to look like an SUV with the comfort of a car.
According to the latest report, Tata has fast-tracked the work on the mini-SUV and has asked the supplier to give the tariff for the new model. Tata is reportedly looking to roll out 25,000 to 30,000 units of the X451 initially.
The X451 will be based on Tata's Advanced Modular Platform (AMP). Tata has plans to release several new models based on the same platform till 2020. It is being said that Tata has managed to smudge the negativity around the brand with the new Tiago and is looking forward to continue that with a host of new models.
Besides the X451, the other vehicles in works are the Tiago-based compact sedan codenamed the Kite 5, the Hexa MPV and the Nexon compact SUV. Tata is expected to launch the Kite 5 and the Hexa in India during the festive season this year.
Meanwhile, Tata announcing the monthly report of June said that the company has clocked 100 percent growth in the hatchback segment last month with the success of the Tiago. Tata has received over 22,000 bookings for the new Tiago and is selling an average of more than 3,000 units of the Tiago every month since its entry into the market in April.
