Tata Motors is all set to launch its all-new Tiago hatchback in the country by the end of March. The Tiago hatchback, previously named the Zica, will take on the likes of Maruti Celerio, Hyundai i10 and Chevrolet Beat in the country.
The company, which changed the name of its upcoming hatchback to the Tiago, had confirmed earlier that it would make its market entry by March-end. Now, a report of Auto Car India suggests the launch will take place on March 28. Previous reports had said the company had already started production of the Tiago at its Sanand facility in Gujarat and 1,800 units of the hatchback had already been made.
The company had announced the intent to rename the Zica (acronym derived from Zippy Car) following the Zika virus outbreak in many countries. The Tiago will be the first car from Tata Motors to feature the new Impact design philosophy.
Under the hood, the Tiago will pack a 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine that will churn out 83.8bhp of power at 6,000rpm and 114Nm of torque at 3,500rpm. The 1.0-litre three-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine will produce 69bhp of power 4,000rpm and 140Nm of torque at 1,800-3,000rpm. Both engines will be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, and the AMT gear option is expected to join the range later.
The hatchback will feature a Harman infotainment system with eight speakers, steering-mounted audio controls for telephony and a cooled glove box. On the safety front, the Tiago will come with an ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System), EBD (Electronic BrakeForce Distribution) and Corner Stability Control.
To be offered in Platinum Silver, Pearlescent White, Sunburst Orange, Berry Red, Espresso Brown and Striker Blue colours, Tata Tiago is expected to get a price tag in the range of Rs 3.9 lakh to Rs 5.5 lakh.
