Tata Motors is gearing up to launch an array of special edition and new variants to its existing models. While the Tata Nexon special edition was revealed on September 3, images of the Tata Tiago NRG have been leaked online.
As the name suggests, the Tiago NRG is based on the Tiago hatchback and Tata Motors has jazzed up the car to make it more rugged. Cross-hatchbacks are one of the hot-selling segments in India especially among the urban audience and Tiago NRG clearly targets such audience.
Tata Motors has increased the ruggedness of the Tiago NRG with black body kit featuring dual-tone bumpers (front and rear) with aux brushed-aluminium scuff plates. The cross-hatch gets black side skirts and black cladding around all four wheel arches. The front grille, roof, rear view mirror caps, rear spoiler and the B-pillar have been finished in black.
The tailgate has a thick black section that connects both the tail lamps. It also housed the Tiago badge on the left and NRG logo on the right. A set of 4-spoke 14-inch diamond cut alloy wheels completes the look of Tiago NRG. Tata Motors will offer the Tiago NRG in 3 dual-tone colour options - Malabar Silver, Canyon Orange and Fuji White.
All these exterior embellishments have made the Tiago NRG longer, wider and taller than the standard Tiago. The cross-hatch version measures 3793mm in length, 1,665mm in width and 1,587 mm in height. The wheelbase remains the same at 2,400mm while the ground clearance has increased to 180mm (up by 10mm).
Inside the cabin, the dashboard is identical to the regular Tiago models barring orange and silver inserts around the AC vents. Electrically adjustable mirrors, cooled glove box, 5.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that doubles as a display for the reverse camera and Harman sound system are the other notable features in Tiago NRG. The cross-hatch also gets seats with fixed headrests and are wrapped in grey fabric upholstery with orange highlights.
There won't be changes in the powertrain and transmission. The Tiago NRG will continue with 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol and 1.0-litre three-cylinder Revotorq diesel mills.
Tata Motors is expected to launch the Tiago NRG on September 12. It will go up primarily against the Maruti Suzuki CelerioX priced from Rs 4.63 lakh to Rs 5.48 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. Tiago NRG will also pose challenges to Ford Freestyle.
