The launch of the Tiago, the highly-awaited model from Tata Motors, has reportedly been pushed to April. Tata was expected to launch the Tiago hatchback in the domestic market by March-end.
Although several reports on the web had earlier said that the Tiago would make its market entry March 28, International Business Times India had confirmed that Tata is yet to finalise the launch date of the model. The latest is that the launch of Tata Tiago has been pushed to April, according to DriveSpark. However, the report did not divulge the exact launch details of the model.
The Tiago, then Zica, was showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 in February this year, after its global unveiling in December 2015. The hatchback was scheduled to be launched early January, but got delayed due to the decision to rename the model. Tata Tiago, which was renamed from Zica following the Zika virus outbreak in many countries, has already started arriving at the dealerships of the company across the country. The dealers of Tata have also started accepting bookings for the Tiago with a down payment of Rs 10,000.
The powertrain of the Tiago will include a 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol and a 1.0-litre three-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine. While the petrol mill will churn out 83.8bhp of power at 6,000rpm and 114Nm of torque at 3,500rpm, the diesel engine will produce 69bhp of power 4,000rpm and 140Nm of torque at 1,800-3,000rpm. Both engines will come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
To be offered in six body shades (Platinum Silver, Pearlescent White, Sunburst Orange, Berry Red, Espresso Brown and Striker Blue), the Tiago is expected to fall in the price brackets of Rs 3.9 lakh to Rs 5.5 lakh. Tata's new soon-to-be-launched hatchback will rival Hyundai i10, Maruti Celerio and other models in the domestic market.
