Tata Motors' new hatchback, the Tiago, entered the indian market with an affordable price tag of Rs. 3.2 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Tiago, which will rival Hyundai i10, Maruti Celerio and Chevrolet Beat in the mid-hatchback segment, is expected to be a game-changer for the company. The company has opened the bookings for the Tiago prior to its launch in the country and the initial response for the new hatchback offering is said to be appealing.
International Business Times India contacted the dealers of Tata in major cities to check the availability and the waiting period of the new Tiago. The dealers have confirmed that the just-launched hatchback now commands a waiting period of up to two months depending on the city. In Bangalore, the waiting period for the Tiago is two months for diesel variants and one month for petrol. In Chennai, both petrol and diesel models have a waiting period of up to two months. Dealers in Delhi and Mumbai told IBT that the Tiago will be delivered within one month of booking. The hatchback is yet-to-be-launched in Kerala.
The Tiago is Tata's first offering to be based on its Impact design language and is offered in both petrol and diesel variants. While the 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol mill will churn out 83.8bhp of power at 6,000rpm and 114Nm of torque at 3,500rpm, the 1.0-litre three-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine will produce 69bhp of power at 4,000rpm and 140Nm of torque at 1,800-3,000rpm. Both engines will come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The Tiago claims to offer a mileage of 23.84 kmpl for petrol and 27.28 kmpl for diesel.
