Tata Motors has announced the company will officially open the bookings for its soon-to-be-launched Tiago hatchback in India from March 10. Prospective buyers will be able to book the Tiago at authorised dealerships of the company or online with a down-payment of Rs 10,000, Tata Motors said in a statement.
Tata has also announced the launch of a programme to provide its Tiago customers an opportunity to meet FC Barcelona and Argentina's ace footballer Lionel Messi in Barcelona. Participating customers will have to finish the sentence "I love Tata Tiago because...," and the most creative responses would be shortlisted for the first set of qualifiers.
Tata is expected to launch the new Tiago in the domestic market by March-end. Tata Tiago, previously named Zica but renamed following the Zika virus outbreak in many countries, is likely to get a price tag in the range of Rs 3.9 lakh to Rs 5.5 lakh.
Under the hood, the Tiago will pack a 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine that will churn out 83.8bhp of power at 6,000rpm and 114Nm of torque at 3,500rpm. The 1.0-litre three-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine will produce 69bhp of power 4,000rpm and 140Nm of torque at 1,800-3,000rpm. Both engines will come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
In India, Tata Tiago will rival Hyundai i10, Maruti Celerio and other models in its segment.
