The Tiago hatchback, which Tata Motors launched in April, has been receiving good response from the markets with over 22,000 bookings. Tata Motors has not got carried away with the success and the company already started working on new variants of the Tiago. The Tiago, which was launched without an automatic transmission option, is all set to get one.
Autocar India has taken pictures of Tata Tiago petrol with the automatic transmission. The hatchback is fully camouflaged, yet a squint eye can spot automatic transmission. The publication says it is an AMT unit not CVT one and the launch of the Tiago AMT will take place in September.
Tata Motors currently offers AMT transmission option in the GenX Nano and the Zest diesel models. Tiago is the third model to be employed with the AMT gearbox. The AMT transmission in the Tiago will be mated to the 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine, which churns out 83.8bhp of power at 6,000rpm and 114Nm of torque at 3,500rpm. The same engine will continue to be offered in five-speed manual gearbox. A Tiago AMT diesel cannot be written off in a later stage.
