As news of the Tiago-based crossover making it to production continues to make headlines, the latest is that this crossover, called the Tiago Aktiv, is likely to be made only in limited numbers. Although there are various versions on the launch of the Tiago Aktiv, general belief is that it could come soon, may be during the festive season.
A report of Auto Car India claims that the Tiago Aktiv is likely to be manufactured only in small numbers initially and the company will increase the number later after seeing the response. The Tiago Aktiv is expected to be priced slightly higher than the Tiago, and when launched, Tata's crossover offering could become the cheapest model in its segment. Tata had showcased the Tiago crossover, the Zica Aktiv, at the Auto Expo 2016. The Aktiv is the modified avatar of the Tiago hatchback.
In its crossover avatar, the Tiago Aktiv is likely to come with crossover traits like black plastic cladding on the tailgate, a skid plate at the rear, alloy wheels and cladding around the body. Rumours suggest that the Aktiv could get power from the same powerplant of the Taigo.
The Tiago is powered by 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol and 1.0-litre three-cylinder Revotorq diesel mills. While the petrol mill churns out 83.8bhp of power at 6,000rpm and 114Nm of torque at 3,500rpm, the 1.05- diesel engine produces 69bhp of power 4,000rpm and 140Nm of torque at 1,800-3,000rpm. Both the engines come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
