The work on Tata's upcoming compact SUV Nexon seems to be going at a rapid pace, as the company continues testing the model on Indian roads. The Nexon, expected to make its debut in India in early 2016, has been caught on camera yet again while performing tests in the country.

In the latest spy shots shared by Motoroids, Tata Nexon, also known as Osprey, is still hiding under a lot of camouflage, thus keeping the new model away from eagle-eyed photographers. Tata Nexon is expected to join the company's pavilion at Auto Expo 2016, to be held in February.

From the relatively little that can be seen in the images, Tata Nexon seems to have taken design cues the Nexon concept, showcased at Auto Expo 2014. Tata Nexo will be pitted against Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300 once it hits the roads, and is expected to get a price tag in the range of Rs 6-10 lakh.

Under the hood, Nexon is expected to include a 1.2-litre petrol Revotron engine and a 1.3-litre Multijet engine that also do duty in Bolt and Zest. There have also been rumours about a new 1.5-litre petrol engine from the Revotron family, which is likely to develop a power of 100bhp.

Based on the re-engineered Tata X1 platform, Nexon is expected to be priced in the sub-Rs 6 lakh brackets.
