Tata Motors has begun testing its upcoming compact SUV Nexon in India, and the prototype has been snapped for the first time, giving us an early glimpse at the model. The interesting bit is the first set of spy shots of Tata Nexon, the compact SUV codenamed Osprey, also give us a sneak peek into the cabin of the model.
The heavily camouflaged prototype of Nexon SUV was spotted testing by the folks at Autocolumn. There is nothing much one can make out from the pictures since the camouflage does a good job of hiding all the details. However, the spy images can give a fairly good idea about the overall proportion of the model.
As we already know, Tata Nexon concept was revealed at the Auto Expo, 2014. Likely to come with a seven-seater configuration, Nexon will be pitted against Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300.
Under the hood, the Tata Osprey aka Nexon is expected to be powered by the 1.2-litre petrol Revotron engine and the 1.3-litre Multijet engine that also does duty in Bolt and Zest. Previous reports had indicated that Tata was considering employing the new 1.5-litre multijet diesel engine Fiat is currently working on.
From what we hear, Tata is likely to launch Nexon in the second half of 2016 or early 2017, and the SUV is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 6-10 lakh. Rumours are also rife that Tata Nexon could make its debut at the upcoming Auto Expo 2016.
