If the emerging reports are anything to go by, the launch of the Nexon, the compact SUV from the house of Tata Motors, could be delayed further as the company is taking another look at the product portfolio to price it competitively in the market.
The Nexon compact SUV was showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 in February. The SUV has been linked with several launch dates since then and the latest we hear is that the launch could take place only in 2017. Tata has reportedly also pushed the launch of the Kite 5 compact sedan to 2017. According to the Economic Times, the Nexon could get a lot of changes in its production-spec version as Tata is re-visiting the strategy.
Tata has already started testing the Nexon on the Indian roads. For the uninitiated, built on the heavily modified Tata X1 platform of the Indica, the Nexon SUV features the next generation Impact design philosophy of Tata.
From a visual stand point, the front fascia of the Nexon flaunts the chrome Humanity Line on the upper grille featuring stylish projector headlamps with daytime running lamps (DRLs). At the rear, the Nexon is expected to get LED tail-lamps with chrome accents, arising beltline and a floating roof uplifts the rear of the car. The SUV rides on 16-inch alloy wheels.
Under the hood, the compact SUV of Tata is likely to get a1.2-litre turbo-charged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The transmission in the model is likely to be taken care of by six-speed AMT box.
Tata Nexon, which will rival Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 6.5 lakh to Rs. 10 lakh. As for features, expect the SUV to get keyless entry, push start/top button, reverse-parking camera and a 6.5-inch infotainment system with Bluetooth and USB connectivity.
