Tata Motors unveiled its upcoming compact SUV Nexon at the Auto Expo 2016. The Nexon, which features Tata's next-generation Impact design philosophy, was one of the main attractions of the home-grown car-maker's pavilion at the 13th edition of the auto show in Delhi.
While auto aficionados have already got several hints at what the new Nexon SUV will look like and what it will have in store, there is still no word on when it might be launched in India. However, sources close to the development told International Business Times India the Nexon will be launched in the country in 2017. Starting with the launch of the Zica hatchback, 2016 is going to be a busy year for the Tata, as it plans to launch the compact sedan Kite 5 and the crossover Hexa. We assume this might be one of the reasons for Nexon coming in 2017.
When launched, the Nexon compact SUV will rival mainly Maruti's soon-to-be-launched Vitara Brezza and Ford's EcoSport. This also tells us the Nexon compact SUV could get a price tag in the range of Maruti's Vitara Brezza. The Vitara Brezza is expected to come with a price tag in the range of Rs 5.5-8.2 lakh.
For the uninitiated, built on the heavily-modified Tata X1 platform of the Indica, Nexon has a 1.2-litre turbo-charged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. We also hear Tata is considering AMT (automated manual transmission) for the Nexon. Inside the cabin of the Nexon are a 6.5-inch Harman touchscreen infotainment system with eight speakers, voice control and command recognition, and a multi-function steering wheel.
