Tata is yet to make an official announcement on the launch of Nexon compact SUV in India. Industry watchers feel the launch could happen during the Diwali festivities later this year. A lot has been said about the upcoming Nexon and the model was spied on different occasions. Though the top end version was caught on camera earlier, the latest test mule spied is a base variant.
Nexon showcased the top-end version at the Auto Expo earlier last year and later at the Geneva Motor Show. The sighting of the new test mule, courtesy Motoroids, has opened discussions on the specs of the base variant. The report also said few units of Nexon have been sent to Vehicle Research and Development Establishment (VRDE) for approvals.
From the images, the lower variant of the upcoming Nexon will get steel wheels while a roof-mounted shark-fin antenna is expected to come as standard. Dual-tone interior and three drive modes (City, Eco and Sport) are also expected. While the SUV is likely to get airbags and ABS as standard features across all trims, the base variant is likely to miss out on the touchscreen infotainment system.
In the top-end version, Nexon is expected to include features like openable console with armrest, automatic climate control with rear AC vents and infotainment system with a dash-top touchscreen equipped with voice command recognition.
Under the hood, the Nexon will pack a 1.5-litre Revotorq diesel mill mated to six-speed manual transmission gearbox and a 1.2-litre turbocharged unit. Tata Nexon will be pitted against Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300 in the country and could be priced in the range of Rs. 6.5 lakh to Rs. 10 lakh.
