The wait is almost over as the emerging reports on the cyberspace suggest that the launch of Tata Motors' highly anticipated Bolt hatchback is scheduled for 20 January, 2015.
Tata has already began accepting the bookings for Bolt in the country with an advance payment of ₹11,000 and now a new ZigWheels report claims that Bolt is set to take off on 20, January. Bolt has been making news ever since it first appeared at the Delhi Auto Expo, 2014.
Bolt will be available in both petrol and diesel engine options. Under the hood, the petrol variant of the car packs 1.2-litre Revotron turbo-charged engine, which is tuned to generate 84bhp at 5,000rpm and a torque of 140Nm of 1,750-3,500rpm. The diesel model gets 1.3-litre Quadrajet diesel motor that can generate 73bhp and peak torque of 190Nm. Both the engines will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Like the Zest, the Bolt will also offer Eco, City and Sport driving modes.
In terms of dimensions, Tata Bolt measures 3,825mm in length, 1,695mm in width and 1,562mm in height. The car offers a ground clearance of 165mm and comes seated on a wheelbase of 2,470mm. The Bolt will come fitted with MapmyIndia GPS navigation, which is specially coded for integration between the phone and in-dash screen, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, Corner Stability Control and several other features.
For Bolt, the competition is not going to be easy in the small-car segment which is flooded with models like Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai i10, i20, Honda Jazz and Chevrolet Beat in the domestic market. However, the good sales of Zest have boosted the confidence of Tata Motors and the company is likely to give an impressive price tag for Bolt as well. Going by the words around the internet, expect Tat Bolt to get a price tag of ₹6.5 lakh.
