Decks have been cleared for the arrival of Tata Motors' highly anticipated Bolt hatchback. Bolt, the second offering from Tata Motors' Horizonnext umbrella will be presented to its fans in the country on 22 January (Thursday).
Auto enthusiasts in the country have been waiting to hold the steering wheel of Tata's small car offering Bolt since its maiden appearance at Delhi Auto Expo, 2014. The car has been regularly in news for over a year now and finally the maker of Bolt is ready to break the cover of the car. Bookings for Bolt are already underway in the country with an advance payment of ₹11,000.
When it comes to Bolt, like its Zest sedan the company seems to have gotten it all right from the beginning. Bolt, the car which is based on Vista's X1 platform measures 3,825mm in length, 1,695mm in width and 1,562mm in height.
Under the skin, Bolt will pack both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol variant of the car will come with 1.2-litre Revotron turbo-charged engine, which is tuned to generate 84bhp at 5,000rpm and a torque of 140Nm of 1,750-3,500rpm. The diesel model will be powered by 1.3-litre Quadrajet diesel motor that can generate 73bhp and peak torque of 190Nm. Both the engines will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Like the Zest, the Bolt will also offer Eco, City and Sport driving modes.
Feature list of Bolt will include MapmyIndia GPS navigation, dual airbags, ABS with EBD and Corner Stability Control. Considering the pricing strategy Tata adopted for Zest sedan in India, Bolt, the new hatchback of the company is likely to get a price tag in the range of ₹4.25 lakh and ₹6.5 lakh.
Bolt will rival Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai i10, i20, Honda Jazz and Chevrolet Beat in India.
