Tata Motors showcased its future product range including the soon-to-be-launched Tiago, Kite 5 compact sedan and Nexon compact SUV at the 13th edition of the Auto Expo in Greater Noida in February. While Tata Motors will launch the Tiago in the country by March-end, the launch dates of other models are yet to be made public.
Although the previous reports had stated that the Tata Nexon compact SUV would make its market entry only in early 2017, some emerging reports indicate that the compact SUV of Tata will also be part of the Tata's product line up for this year. A report of Car Dekho suggests that the Nexon will be launched in the domestic market before the Kite 5 compact sedan. The Kite 5 of Tata, which is based on the Tiago platform, is expected to come during the festive season of this year.
For the uninitiated, built on the heavily-modified Tata X1 platform of the Indica, the Nexon compact SUV will rival mainly Maruti's new Vitara Brezza and Ford's EcoSport. Under the hood, the Nexon gets a 1.2-litre turbo-charged petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine.
Tata is also said to be considering AMT (automated manual transmission) for the Nexon. Inside the cabin of the Nexon are a 6.5-inch Harman touchscreen infotainment system with eight speakers, voice control and command recognition, and a multi-function steering wheel.
