Tata Motors' upcoming hatchback, which is internally codenamed Kite, has been spied testing once again in the country, ahead of its expected launch later this year. This time, the car has been spotted with the former Formula One racer Narain Karthikeyan behind the wheel.
Caught on camera by motor buffs at Carwale at Lonavala, the Tata Kite hatchback is seen heavily camouflaged as usual, concealing key aspects. However, from the images, the car looks like a production-ready version.
Ex- Formula One racer Narain Karthikeyan has a long association with Tata Motors in testing the vehicles to give the right feedback about the performances of vehicles.
Under the hood, the Tata Kite hatchback, which is based on Indica's platform, is expected to pack the company's new 1.05-litre three-cylinder common-rail diesel motor that can churn out a power of 64.1bhp and 14.27kgm of torque, and the all-new 1.2-litre petrol engine.
The Kite is likely to get e-clutch system similar to AMT, which allows drivers to use manual transmission for the first gear without using the clutch. There have also been rumours of an AMT variant of Kite.
Expected to be priced around Rs 4 lakh, Tata Kite will be competing against the likes of Maruti Celerio and Hyundai Grand i10.
