Tata Motors' upcoming Kite hatchback has reportedly entered the pre-production phase in India ahead of its possible launch.
A Motor Beam report, citing sources close to the development, reveals that Tata Kite hatchback is currently in its pre-production stage in the country and the model is expected to arrive in the market in October 2015.
Kite, which has reportedly been named as Glade, was caught on camera numerous times while undergoing testing in the country. Currently, the hatchback is believed to be in its final test rounds as the recent spy shots hinted at the production-ready look. Tata is also working on a sedan, which is known as Kite.
Kite, the model based on the Indica platform, will take on the likes of Maruti Celerio and Hyundai Grand i10 in India and is expected to be priced around Rs 4 lakh. Under the hood, Tata Kite hatchback is likely to get the company's new 1.05-litre three-cylinder common-rail diesel motor that can churn out a power of 64.1bhp and 14.27kgm of torque and an all-new 1.2-litre petrol engine. Kite is speculated to get e-clutch system similar to AMT, which allows drivers to use manual transmission for the first gear without using the clutch.
