A fresh batch of images of Tata Motors' upcoming compact sedan, currently known by its codename Kite 5, has emerged on the Internet, this time showing an orange body shade of the model. The Tiago-based compact sedan has been undergoing a rigorous testing regime in India for quite a while now, and the prototypes of the model have been photographed a few times. The most recent pictures add to the list of the spy shots of the Kite 5 ahead of its official entry into the market.
RushLane has shared the spy shots, which are believed to have been taken at the parking lot near the company's Pune plant. As before, in the latest images too, the test mule of the Kite 5 was seen hiding under considerable amount of camouflage, thus obstructing the key details of the model. However, a closer look at the images reveals the black bumper of the model with chrome slat at the rear. While the presence of black bumper suggests that the spotted test mule could be the base variant of the Kite 5, the thick chrome slat leaves one in doubt. The images also give a hint at the Sunburst orange body shade of the model, which is on offer for the new Tiago.
Tata Kite 5 was showcased in its nearly production-ready guise at the Auto Expo 2016 in February. Although the name of the model is yet to be revealed, rumours suggest that Tata is considering three names — Canvas, Dribble or Ingrid.
To be offered in both petrol and diesel engines, the Kite 5 will rival Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Volkswagen Ameo and Ford Figo Aspire. The 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine will churn out 83.8bhp of power at 6,000rpm and 114Nm of torque at 3,500rpm, while the all-new 1.05-litre, three-cylinder turbo-charged diesel engine will develop 69bhp of power and 140Nm of torque.
Tata is expected to launch the new compact sedan during the festive season this year.
