Tata Motors is inching closer to the launch of the Kite 5 (codename) compact sedan and the production spec version of the car has been spied. The compact sedan sibling of the Tiago hatchback has been unveiled as a pre-production model at Auto Expo 2016 by Tata Motors.
The new batch of spy pictures published by Autocar India shows the rear of the car. It is notable that Tata Motors designers have prepared a compact sedan that does not look like a hatchback with extra boot in the Kite 5. The design of the Kite 5 at rear is cohesive and gels with the overall look of the car. The boot reportedly offers 420-litre capacity. The spied image belongs to the top spec variant and a high mounted stop lamp that stretches from the one end to the other end of the wind screen can also be noticed in the spy picture.
The Kite 5 will measure 3,995mm in length, 1,647mm in width and 1,535mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,450mm. The compact sedan will share interior design, features and powertrain with the Tiago hatchback. The 1.2-litre three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine will churn out 83.8bhp of power at 6,000rpm and 114Nm of torque at 3,500rpm, the all-new 1.05-litre, three-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine will develop 69bhp of power and 140Nm of torque. Both the engines will be available with multi-drive modes — Eco and City.
The Kite 5 will boast of safety features that include dual airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Corner Stability Control (CSC). Tata's compact sedan will rival Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Volkswagen Ameo and Ford Figo Aspire in India.
