After launching the Tiago hatchback successfully in India, Tata Motors is expected to launch the compact sedan codenamed the Kite 5, in the country soon. The Kite 5 is said to be in its final stages of testing and will enter the production stage soon. It is expected to hit showrooms in India during the festive season this year, with probable launch date being in September.
Kite 5 carries high expectations to replicate the success of the Tiago hatchback. Tata Tiago hatchback, which made market entry in India in April, is doing an amazing job for the company by notching sales of over 23,000 units in just three months of its launch. The hatchback, which is clocking average sales of 4,000 units a month, is also the first model in Tata's line-up in the past two years to exceed the monthly sales of 4,000 units.
Coming back to the Kite 5, the compact sedan, which is based on the Tiago hatchback, features a rear styling that is different from the other models in its segment, while the interiors of the model share similarities with the hatchback.
Under the hood, the Kite 5will come packed with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol and 1.05-litre three-cylinder diesel motors. While the 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine will churn out 83.8bhp of power at 6,000rpm and 114Nm of torque at 3,500rpm, the all-new 1.05-litre, three-cylinder turbo-charged diesel engine will develop 69bhp of power and 140Nm of torque. Both engines will be available with multi-drive modes — Eco and City.
In India, the Kite 5 will take on the likes of Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Volkswagen Ameo and Ford Figo Aspire. The Kite 5 will come with safety features that include dual airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Corner Stability Control (CSC).
