It looks like finally we have the name of the upcoming compact sedan of Tata Motors. The Tiago-based compact sedan, which is codenamed as Kite 5 will reportedly be monikered as Sway. Tata is expected to launch the Kite 5 in India in early 2017.
The emerging reports suggest that the Sway, which means a rhythmical movement from side to side, could be the official name of the Kite 5, which has been undertaking testing on the Indian roads since its debut in production guise at the Auto Expo 2016 in February. However, this contradicts the earlier reports that said Tata narrowed down the search for the name to three -- Dribble, Canvas and Ingrid.
The Kite 5, the sedan based on Tiago hatchback when launched will take on the likes of Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Volkswagen Ameo and Ford Figo Aspire in India. The Kite 5 is expected to be offered in both diesel and petrol engine options in India—1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol and 1.05-litre three-cylinder diesel motors. While the 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine will churn out 83.8bhp of power at 6,000rpm and 114Nm of torque at 3,500rpm, the all-new 1.05-litre, three-cylinder turbo-charged diesel engine will develop 69bhp of power and 140Nm of torque. Both engines will be available with multi-drive modes — Eco and City.
In terms of dimension, the compact sedan measures 3,995mm in length, 1,647mm in width and 1,535mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,450mm. The Kite 5 is expected to get safety features such as dual airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Corner Stability Control (CSC).
Recent reports have said that the popularity of the Tiago is delaying the launch of the Kite 5 in the country. Tata Tiago, which made its market entry in April has been witnessing overwhelming response in the market and the hatchback currently command a waiting period of over 4 months.
