Tata Motors is inching closer to the launch of its new flagship SUV, Hexa. Emerging reports indicate that the media drive of Hexa has been scheduled for the end of October and that hints at a possible launch in the beginning of November.
Tata Motors showcased Hexa at Auto Expo 2016 in February. Hexa, the copiously reworked Aria has taken inputs from Tata's British subsidiary Land Rover in design, features and powertrain.
The new flagship model comes with a honeycomb grille with chrome "Humanity Line" which is the new signature style of Tata vehicles. The SUV flaunts projector head-lamps, LED daytime running lights, integrated spoiler and roof rails. Adding in off-roader looks are the black cladding that runs around the body, while the top-spec variants will come with massive 19-inch five-twin-spoke alloy wheels. Hexa measures 4,764mm in length, 1,895mm in width, 1,780mm of height and has 2,850mm of ground clearance.
The interior is spruced up with dual-tone dashboard and leather-covered captain seats. The SUV will pack three-spoke steering wheel, LED illumination and mood lighting as standard, while the top-spec variants will also feature high-end Harman Kardon Infotainment system. The system will have a 5.0 inch touchscreen display that will also act as the reverse camera display.
The SUV will be powered by a 2.2-litre four-cylinder VARICOR diesel engine, which is tuned to generate 154bhp of power at 4,000rpm and 400Nm of torque at 1,700 to 2,700rpm. The engine will be mated to the choice of either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. The automatic transmission in question is expected to be an AMT unit. Hexa will also feature four driving modes — Auto, Comfort, Dynamic and Rough Road.
The price of Hexa is expected to start at Rs 12.5 lakh and it will go up against Toyota Innova Crysta, Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner in India.
