Tata Motors is inching closer to the launch of the Hexa SUV which is expected in October. Being the flagship SUV, Hexa prices were rumoured between Rs. 15 lakh to Rs. 20 lakh. However, emerging reports say Tata Motors will be competitive on pricing and the Hexa range could start at Rs 12.5 lakh, ex-showroom.
The move is not surprising since the company has tasted success with competitive pricing for the Tiago hatchback. At a starting pricing of Rs 3.20 lakh, the Tiago garnered much attention and it was one of the factors for overwhelming bookings and sales. The company is planning to go with the same strategy for the Hexa as well.
Tata Hexa is the copiously reworked Aria MPV. The design, features and powertrain of the Hexa have been developed with inputs from Tata Motors' British subsidiary, Land Rover. Tata Motors showcased the Hexa at Auto Expo 2016.
The face of the SUV sports a honeycomb grille with chrome "Humanity Line" which is part of new Impact design language of the company. Hexa also flaunts projector head-lamps, LED daytime running lights, integrated spoiler and roof rails. The black cladding that runs around the SUV adds off-road appeal, while the top-spec variants will come with massive 19-inch five twin spoke alloy wheels. The SUV will measure 4,764mm in length, 1,895mm in width, 1,780mm of height and have 2,850mm of ground clearance.
On the inside, the dashboard will get dual-tone finish and leather-covered captain seats. A three-spoke steering wheel, LED illumination and mood lighting will be standard additions. The top-spec variants will also boast of Harman Infotainment system. The 5.0 inch touchscreen display of the unit will also act as the reverse camera display.
The SUV will be powered by a 2.2-litre four-cylinder VARICOR diesel engine, which is tuned to generate 154bhp of power at 4,000rpm and 400Nm of torque at 1,700 to 2,700rpm. The engine will be mated to the choice of either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Hexa will also feature four driving modes — Auto, Comfort, Dynamic and Rough Road.
