Tata Motors unveiled its new flagship SUV -- the Hexa -- at the Auto Expo 2016 and confirmed the launch of the SUV in India soon. Emerging reports indicate the launch has been scheduled on this festive season and the SUV will employ Automated Manual Transmission.
It was reported that Tata Motors may delay the launch of the Hexa over diesel vehicle registration ban in Delhi and NCR. However, Mayank Pareek, president of Tata Motors Passenger Car Vehicles, told CNBC-TV18 that the Hexa would be launched in India shortly.
Tata Motors already confirmed that the Hexa will be powered by a 2.2-litre four-cylinder VARICOR diesel engine, which is tuned to generate 154bhp of power at 4,000rpm and 400Nm of torque at 1,700 to 2,700rpm. The engine will be mated to the choice of either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. The automatic transmission in question wills the AMT unit. Tata Motors currently offers AMT transmission option in the Zest sedan and GenX Nano hatchback, while in the Tiago, AMT is expected to be available soon.
The flagship SUV will also feature four driving modes -- Auto, Comfort, Dynamic and Rough Road. The Hexa will be packed with 5-inch TFT touchscreen infotainment system from Harman, compatible with USB, iPod, SD card, Aux and Bluetooth audio. On the safety front, the crossover will boast of with six airbags, anti-lock brake system (ABS) with electronic brake distribution (EBD).
The Hexa is essentially a copiously reworked Aria. Having said that, designers at Tata Motors have made maximum effort to make it distinctive. The front of the SUV features dual hexagonal patterned front grille with chrome accents. The smoked projector headlamps, fog lamps and daytime running lamps will add premium touch at the front, while the rear will flaunt wraparound LED tail lamps, integrated spoiler and roof rails.
