Seven people, including two women, were killed and three others were gravely injured when the SUV they were travelling in collided head-on with a lorry at K.Pettai near Kulithalai on the Tiruchirapalli-Karur National highway in Tamil Nadu on Saturday, May 13.

According to the police, the passengers in the SUV were from Maharashtra. They were on their way to Kerala after visiting the famous Basilica of Our Lady of Good Health at Velankanni in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu when the accident took place.
The driver of the lorry is absconding. The superintendent police of Karur atTK Rajasekaran visited the accident spot and took stock of the situation.
Meanwhile, the injured have been admitted to government hospital in Karur.
