Tamil actor Vellai Subbiah has passed away at the age of 80 on Thursday, September 5. He was suffering from throat cancer.
The actor, who was known for his comedy roles, started his career in Devar's Maanavan and worked with legends like MG Ramachandran (MGR), Sivaji Ganeshan, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. Gangai Amaran-directorial Karagattakaran and Vijayakanth's Vaidehi Kathirunthal were some of his well-known movies.
People remember him for the famous 'banana-comedy' scene with Goundamani and Senthil in Karagattakaran.
However, he was visibly ignored by the film industry and the lack of offers forced him to relocate to his native Puliampatti taluk in Erode district.
It may also be recalled that he had sought financial assistance from the Coimbatore district collector recently. Celebrities and fans of Kollywood have condoled the death of the veteran actor and their tweets can be read below:
