It has now been confirmed that while Russia will lead the air raids in the Syria, the Iranian forces will focus on ground attacks against the Syrian rebels.
The reports last week had confirmed that as many as 1,000 Iranian soldiers had arrived in Syria, who according Reuters with their Lebanese Hezbollah allies are planning on launching massive attacks on rebels backed by the Russia airforce.
According to two Lebanese sources familiar with this development has confirmed to Reuters that the Iranian government will focus on carrying out ground operations in Idlib and Hama countryside.
The Iranian ground attacks would be aimed at recapturing territory lost to the rebels, the sources said.
"The vanguard of Iranian ground forces began arriving in Syria: soldiers and officers specifically to participate in this battle. They are not advisers ... we mean hundreds with equipment and weapons. They will be followed by more," one of the sources said.
Besides Iran, several Iraqis and Afghans also will be joining the battle.
Russia collaborating with Hezbollah
Russia that steadily has been increasingly its influence in Syria, last month reportedly launched an attack against the Islamic State. The attack is reported was carried out in collaboration with Hezbollah. The Syrian regime soldiers, Hezbollah and the Russian units are coordinating on recapturing an airbase under Isis in Aleppo region.
The Russian soldiers from its Marine Brigade 810 with the help of the Lebanese militia, which backed by the Iranians wanted to retake the Kweiris airbase located east of Aleppo as it would help in reopening the supply route between Aleppo and Damascus and would help Russians to bring in reinforcements and military equipment.
