Suzuki Motor Corporation has confirmed the world debut of Ignis compact SUV at the 44th Tokyo Motor Show 2015 scheduled to start on 29 October. Ahead of the launch, the Japanese manufacturer released the first image of the car.
The new Ignis was first showcased as the Suzuki iM-4 concept at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, alongside the iK-2 concept, which turned to be the soon-to-be-launched Baleno hatchback.
It seems Suzuki designers have done justice to the concept model as the production model sports very few changes. The car sports a wide honeycomb grille encapsulated with large headlamps. Taking inspiration from the Swift and Baleno, the Ignis also comes with blacked-out A and B pillars. The car features beefed-up wheel arches and 18-inch alloy wheels in dark theme.
The interior of the Ignis will get dual-tone upholstery and a tablet-size touchscreen system connected to Smartplay infotainment is also expected.
The details of powertrains are under the wraps for the Tokyo Motor Show. According to the information available so far, the compact SUV will be powered by a new 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, BoosterJet petrol motor. A 1.2-litre, four-cylinder engine with the SHVS mild-hybrid system mated to CVT gearbox is also rumoured.
The Ignis will be a proper off roader with four-wheel drive system, with the availability of 2WD option. The compact SUV is expected to be positioned below the upcoming production version of iV-4 concept and will be pitted against the upcoming Mahindra S101(XUV100).
