Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd. is gearing up for the launch of 2016 Gixxer April 15 (Friday). The model, first unveiled at Auto Expo 2016 in February, features rear disc brake. The motorcycle will be available in green and black dual tone colours in addition to the existing colour options.
The Gixxer, launched in 2014, became one of the important products in the 150cc segment in a short span of time. However, the rear disc brake wasn't available as an option even though some rivals in the segment offered this as standard. By adding disc brake, Suzuki will be able to further boost the sales of the Gixxer model.
The 2016 model is powered by the same 154.9cc single-cylinder air cooled engine that was seen in the earlier version. It develops 14.5bhp at 8,000rpm and peak torque of 14Nm at 6,000 rpm mated five-speed transmission. The motorcycle comes with telescopic suspension at the front and mono suspension at rear. Gixxer measures 2,050mm in length, 1,030mm in height, 785mm in width and carries a ground clearance of 160mm. The motorcycle weighs 135kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 12 litres.
The new Gixxer goes up against the likes of Yamaha FZ-S, Honda CB Hornet 160R, and Hero Xtreme. The new model is expected to be costlier than the current model, which is priced at Rs. 85,097 on road, New Delhi. Post its launch, Suzuki will come out with the fuel-injected version of the Gixxer SF sometime in the festive season.
