Japanese car maker Suzuki revealed a new hatchback concept at the 30th Thailand International Motor Expo 2013 on Thursday, hinting a possible replacement of Maruti A-star in India.
The new small car concept - monikered A-Wind - is powered by a 996cc 3-cylinder petrol engine and measures 3600 mm in length, 1600 mm in width and 1540 mm in height. The A-Wind concept hatchback was showcased in bright Energy Yellow colour, sporting 16-inch alloy wheels with 185/55 R16 tyres.
Many opine that the new concept car carries exciting design and looks production ready. It features a large touch-screen display, leather covered steering wheel and CVT gearknob.
"The A-Wind is so named because it seeks to bring a fresh wind to the A-segment as a global compact car", said Suzuki at the Motor Expo as quoted by the Indiancar Bikes.
According to various media reports, the car is likely to debut in India at the Auto Expo 2014. Suzuki Motors, which revealed its roadmap for the coming years at the recently held Tokyo Motor Show, had said that the company would launch 14 new car models in India in the next five years. They will also launch 16 models in Japan during this period.
Meanwhile, the Indian subsidiary of the company - Maruti Suzuki - is reportedly developing a new sedan, codenamed YL1, and a multi-utility vehicle (MUV) RX to face the challenges in the domestic auto market. The rumoured MUV is expected to be an opponent for Toyota Innova, with an eight-seater build and a high-capacity diesel engine. The details are scant at this point of time.
On the other hand, the new sedan, codenamed YL1, is speculated to come with either 1.3-litre Multijet diesel or 1.4-litre K Series petrol engine of Ertiga and is expected to boast features like 16-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, push button start, puddle lamps and leather seats. The car is rumoured to come in 2014.
