External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has become a messiah for Indians stranded abroad. She proved it again when a man stuck in Dubai for two years and walked 1,000 km to seek justice was brought back and reunited with his family in India.
Swaraj tweeted on Tuesday saying that the man who reportedly walked 1,000 km in 20 trips to a court in Dubai to be able to come back to India was brought back to his village in Tamil Nadu.
"We have brought him back to India and sent him to his village. He went up and down to the court 20 times over a year. That made it 1000 Kms," Swaraj said.
Jagannathan Selvaraj, 48, went to court in Dubai for two years so that he could return to his village in Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu. He had told the Khaleej Times that he had to bear through traffic, heat, sandstorm and exhaustion to appear for court proceedings. He was living in a public parking area and desperately wanted to return to India.
Jagannathan Selvaraj wanted to return since his mother's death two years ago. But he was not allowed to go back for her funeral.
The story was brought to Swaraj's notice through a news article. The External Affairs Minister had tweeted that she would seek a report from the Indian Embassy in Dubai.
"I have asked for a report from Indian Embassy in Dubai," Swaraj wrote on Twitter.
She has previously helped hundreds of Indians stranded abroad or with missing passports to get back home safely. Despite being unwell, she is performing her duty.
