Owners with their canine companions took their boards out to ride the slamming surf for the 8th Surf City Surf Dog competition held at Huntington Beach, California, near Los Angeles. The dogs competed in four weight and size categories.
Although, pooches acing the exceptionally large swell made for a beautiful photo-op, it's clear how terrified they were of the wipeouts and strong currents washing them on the shores. However, there were quite a few lifeguards on watch making sure that the dogs got out safe and unharmed from the surf.
As many as 68 surfing dogs participated in the competition that aimed at raising funds for nonprofit rescue groups. According to reports, Sunday's event benefited Barks of Love, French Bulldog Rescue Network, Huntington Dog Beach, Orange County SPCA, Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue and Westie Rescue of Orange County & Beyond.
Brazilian Labrador, Bono, bagged the Shredder prize, according to reports.
