Actor Suresh Gopi's Lelam, released in 1997, is one among the evergreen Malayalam movies for the Kerala audience. The character Aanakkattil Chackochi, played by the actor in the action entertainer, still remains one of his career best roles till date.
Now, rumours mills hint that the sequel of the Joshiy directorial is on the cards with director-turned-actor Renji Panicker's son Nithin helming the project. If the rumours are to be believed, the veteran filmmaker Renji will be scripting the sequel as well. Since Cochin Haneefa and NF Varghese, who played pivotal roles in Lelam, are no more, the makers will have to find replacements for the versatile actors if the sequel is on the way. Reports also suggest that the movie will start rolling in 2017.
Lelam, which made tremendous box office collection in 1997, narrates the rivalry between two liquor business groups -- Aanakkattil family and Kadayadi family. The movie stars MG Soman, Siddique, Nandini, Maniyanpilla Raju, Vijayakumar, Spadikam George and Kaviyoor Renuka in main roles.
Meanwhile, Nithin made his directorial debut with the Mammootty-starrer Kasaba in 2016 that garnered mixed response from the audience. Nevertheless, it has become one of the highest grossing movies of the year helping Nithin to make a mark in the industry.
